Welcome to the latest newsletter of the European Association of Geographers (EUROGEO). This month we launch the SeaChange Project to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our oceans with a partner kickoff meeting (see photo),  Members Elsevier are looking for Associate Editors for Political Geography. . Other stories include the launch of the Environmental Democracy Index, a request to contribute to the future development of the world's most famous map competition and an invitation to attend a free conference in Serbia. SeaChange: Protecting Our Oceans And Our Health  

EUROGEO is a partner in the SeaChange H2020 project that will address the challenge of raising European citizens’ awareness of the intrinsic links between the ocean and human health. The kickoff meeting was held in Plymouth UK. Press release

Conference: The "150 Year Anniversary Of Jovan Cvijić" 

The international conference to celebrate "150th Anniversary of the birth of Jovan Cvijić" will take place in Belgrade, from October 12th-14th 2015. For the First Call and Registration Form, visit http://tinyurl.com/okn9efl. The Conference is held without registration fees.

Environmental Democracy Index Launched 

The first ever Environmental Democracy Index (EDI) has been launched. It offers new insights into the state of environmental democracy around the world and opportunities to use the tool to support reform. EDI measures how well countries’ national laws protect environmental democracy rights, such as the right of the public to freely access relevant and timely information, to provide public input and scrutiny in decision-making, and to seek justice before an independent and fair legal authority in cases of environmental harm or violation of rights. Future Of The Barbara Petchenik Map Competition 

After celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the competition, the Commission on Cartography and Children of the the International Cartographic Association are looking for ideas about how the competition could be improved. They aim to collect opinions for inclusion in a discussion document for the next meeting to be held in Rio de Janeiro during ICC 2015. To contribute your ideas, visit http://tinyurl.com/nlb8xvw

ISPRS Open Data Challenge 

Smart cards have been widely used in mass transit fare payment systems. They produce large quantities of AFC (Auto Fare Collection) data. The ISPRS open data challenge 2015 aims at promoting research and excellent work on open data, and encourages creative ideas.
